I've always read that to be safe, since Marshall transformers are designed for EL34 NOT 6550s, you should bias them as an EL34….so between 30-40ma. If you bias them in the 50+ range like a typical 6550 you're taking chances on stressing the transformer. "vintage" sound, since old Marshalls often had ill-suited and undersized transformers off the shelf, and the MM is more modern. It may all be a matter of taste, and $265 is a lot to spend on something that subjective.The Dagnall transformers used by Marshall in the 1974x don't have a great reputation in the 18W community. As you know the earlier production ones used to fail a lot. Neither the earlier nor later production OTs are particularly rated for their tone.
